Dr. Tran has been in practice for over 18 years, and has continued her education year after year to stay at the forefront of her field. Many of our patients have received implant treatment and consider it to be a modern miracle of dentistry.

Using a titanium implant and a ceramic replacement tooth, Dr. Tran will carefully create a fully-functional, durable and aesthetic replacement for your missing tooth.

Dr. Tran will design your implant treatment plan to make sure the final effect is aesthetic, comfortable and fits properly with your bite. She partners with a local oral surgeon for the placement of the the titanium post and then designs the replacement tooth to fit your mouth perfectly. Sometimes the replacement tooth, can even be placed on the same day as the implant. The result of this treatment is a new tooth that looks, feels and functions like your natural teeth.

What is a Dental Implant?

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a titanium post designed to feel and function like a natural tooth. The post is placed into the bone and a ceramic crown is then attached to the implant to restore the proper look and function of the smile.

To devise the best treatment plan for you, we first review your medical and dental history and do a thorough oral examination, including digital x-rays to make sure that your bone structure can support the implant.

The placing of the post is performed in our office using a local anesthetic. Depending upon your individual situation, other types of anesthesia may be used to ensure your comfort, such as sedation dentistry.

The tooth restoration part of the dental implant (the crown) is made to match your other teeth in shape and color so that it will blend in seamlessly and look like a natural part of your smile.

Benefits of Dental Implants

Dental implants are usually a better option for missing teeth than either dental bridges or dentures.

Because dental implants are patterned after the structure of your natural teeth, they provide a highly stable support system for the replacement teeth (crowns) or dentures. Other benefits include:

  • Eat any foods you want. Healthy teeth can absorb over 500 pounds of biting pressure per square inch. If you've worn dentures for a long time, that pressure may be diminished to less than one-tenth of that amount. Dental implants can often restore the amount of pressure that can be withstood to nearly the same level of healthy natural teeth, making it possible to eat any foods you want.

  • Deter tooth and bone loss. Without a natural tooth or an implant in the jaw bone, the material in the jaw deteriorates and shrinks. This can cause other teeth to loosen and can give your face a sunken look.

  • Comfort and fit. Because the replacement teeth are anchored securely to the implants in the jawbone, they can't slip and slide like unsecured dentures can. When dentures aren't secure enough, they often cause sores in the mouth and make an annoying clicking sound. Dental implants eliminate these problems.

  • No nightly care and adhesives.

  • Longevity and reliability. With proper oral hygiene and care, scientifically tested and approved dental implant systems have been shown to last as long as 20 years or more.

  • No need to cut down adjacent teeth. Making a dental bridge requires cutting down healthy teeth in order to fit the appliance in your mouth. Using and implant instead will preserve these teeth.

Are you a candidate for Dental Implants?

If you have one or more missing teeth, you should definitely consider dental implants as the most ideal line of treatment. Each case is unique and Dr. Tran will need to evaluate the state of your mouth to determine if you are a good candidate for implants.

Age is not usually a major factor: successful dental implants have been performed on young people as well as the elderly.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Tran will help you decide. In general, we look for the following characteristics:

  • general good health

  • healthy gums

  • enough underlying jawbone to support the implants

  • a good attitude about following through with vital oral hygiene habits

People who are not good candidates for dental implants include:

  • Young patients whose jawbones have not fully developed.

  • Pregnant women.

  • People with existing medical conditions. If you can have routine dental treatment, you can generally have an implant placed.

  • Patients who take certain medications such as steroids or drugs that suppress the immune system.
